Constructed in 1968, the Memorial College Center (MCC) serves as the university’s central student hub. This distinctive mid-century building had not experienced significant improvements since it was built. However, a new master plan by Georgia Southern repositioned the Memorial College Center as the centerpiece of a new campus greenway.

May Architecture was tasked with revitalizing the Memorial College Center’s second floor with student-focused spaces supporting university programs, student organizations, and testing services. The design team worked carefully to respect the building’s historic, character-defining architectural features while meeting Georgia Southern’s 21st century programmatic needs.

In addition to updating the MCC’s 2nd floor, the project provides code-related improvements, re-fresh of the first-floor lobby, and exterior improvements including roof repair, exterior masonry cleaning and repointing, and curtainwall replacement.

Features of the renovated second floor include: study lounges, multi-purpose rooms, student resource offices, a student media newsroom, faculty workrooms and gender-neutral restrooms.
