The Shepherd Center is a world-renowned rehabilitation hospital providing exceptional care to patients with neurological conditions since its founding in 1975. The hospital’s expert team of physicians and therapists specializes in treating various conditions, from spinal cord injury to acquired brain injury, multiple sclerosis, and chronic pain.
As part of its ongoing effort to provide the best possible care to its patients, the Shepherd Center embarked on a significant renovation project. This project, 2020 Building Renovation, involves overhauling several vital hospital areas. The 88,000-square-foot project includes the renovation of the Multiple Sclerosis Wellness, Infusion, and Clinic and the addition of a dedicated acute brain injury inpatient floor and administrative spaces.
The renovation project comprises several key program elements, each designed to improve the hospital’s ability to provide state-of-the-art care to its patients. These include a Main Lobby that will provide a welcoming and comfortable space for patients and their families, a Centralized Waiting and Registration area to streamline the check-in process, and Clinical Psychology services to address the mental health needs of patients.
In addition, the renovation project includes three classrooms and multipurpose rooms where patients and staff can participate in educational programs and group therapy sessions. The new dedicated 35-bed inpatient floor is specifically for acute brain injury patients, with a state-of-the-art therapy gym to aid their recovery. Finally, the hospital is creating a simulation clinical training suite to provide staff with hands-on training in a safe and controlled environment.
