In early December of 2019, a 24” pipe burst in Grady Hospital, flooding several floors and taking 200 beds out of service as well as many diagnostic, treatment and support areas. This project renovated 18,700 SF of the damaged area, including the Employee Health Clinic, Employee Onboarding, Financial Counseling, Lab Waiting, Blood Draw and a large 4-story Entry Lobby. Since the flood took these areas out of service unexpectedly, it put an immediate strain on Grady’s ability to deliver services. As a result, this project was delivered on a fast-track, multi-phased basis, allowing demolition and reconstruction to begin well before the completion of construction documents so that these areas could be brought back on-line as quickly as possible. As part of the reconstruction, the Gift Shop was expanded and a new Starbucks was provided, substantially improving the amenities available to Grady’s visitors and staff. New finishes were based on Grady’s new standards providing the updated Grady brand in these areas.
